Posterboard & Crochet Envelope Tutorial

Here's my tutorial for a basic envelope to be used in conjunction with my Valentine coasters.
Materials:
poster board (I found some in tie dye, cool, huh?)
ruler
scissors
single hole punch
large button
tapestry needle
worsted weight yarn of choice ( model done in Peaches & Creme worsted weight 100% cotton)
US G-6 /4 mm crochet hook
pencil
items ot be placed in envelope (in this case my Eye Heart Ewe coasters)

Determine the size needed. Lay item(s) on wrong side of poster board. Add about 1  1/2 " all around.

Obviously there are 2 sides to an envelope to form the pocket. So double your previous dimension to account for both sides. You are not adding anything to the width here, only the height.

TIP: when tracing out fold and cut lines bear down hard with the pencil in order to score the lines and thus make folding easier and neater.

Add an additonal 3-4" to the total height to make the envelope flap.

Carefully fold the poster board along the drawn cutting line.

Repeat the other way around to form a sharp crease.

Cut out creased line.

Shape flap edges. Using a straight edge, trace out angle and cut. Use cut piece to trace other angle.

Fold envelope along scored line.

Using ruler, mark holes to be punched at about 1/2" from edge & 1/3" apart. Punch holes using hole punch.

Using coordinating yarn & with sides held together, attach yarn with slip stitch to lower corner. Chain 1, sc in same stitch 2 times, working over the yarn tail to anchor.

Work 2 single crochet stitches in each hole to the end. Finish off, weaving and trimming ends. Repeat for other side. And again for flap adding 3 sts at the point of the flap as desired.

Fold flap, place button directly below the end of flap. Mark the button placement.

Make a 1" x 1" cut out to reinforce the area where the button will be sewn. Cover square on both sides with tape for additional strength. Punch hole in middle of square and glue it in place over the button location mark.

Sew button onto envelope using the tapestry needle.

Insert folded 12" length of yarn into flap point using crochet hook. Pull ends of yarn through the loop of yarn at the top as if making fringe.
